2022.01.28 09:10 RogueCommando Xbox Gamers, can you play Ryse: Son of Rome's gladiator mode by yourself without a subscription?
Returning player here considering whether or not to pick this gem up again. I completed all of the achievements years ago and really enjoyed the colosseum gameplay; got the season pass but have decided against paying for any more of microsoft's subscriptions as they don't fit the time I have to play games. The story was alright but the deciding factor is being able to play the gladiator mode. Can anyone help me out?

2022.01.28 09:10 jix1991 Why are self cast vaal spell skills neglected?
The problem stated in the section "Hit-based Spellcasting" is that "most hit-based Spellcasting builds deal too little damage and have too few defensive and mobility options when compared with alternatives like Traps, Totems, Mines, Triggered Skills or Damage over Time.". This resulted in 55 skills receiving a numerical change.
Of these 55 skills 8 have a Vaal variant, which is subjected to the same problem as their non vaal variant. All of these Vaal skills are non-instant Vaal skills and subject to the same problem as above: Vaal Arc, Vaal Blade Vortex, Vaal Cold Snap, Vaal Fireball, Vaal Flameblast, Vaal Ice Nova, Vaal Spark, Vaal Storm Call.
Is there a particular reason why the Vaal variants of these skills received no numerical changes or were they just not communicated?
tl;dr: self cast spells buffed, self cast vaal spells no change

2022.01.28 09:10 OldCyrus Story Time: Mystery of the Dishie
Here's a story that I think the people here would get a kick out of.
About a year before covid started (which if I recall correctly it was about 35 years ago) I was a chef de partie at a 3 Michelin star restaurant. One of the things I loved about the job was that everybody took it extremely seriously. We had no slackers and while the rules were Fair, breaking them even slightly had harsh penalties. Especially if the rule breaking had anything to do with cleanliness. This was one of those restaurants that couldn't care less about a health inspection. Even the dishwashers were people going to college for culinary arts or some other formal education. It was a hard rule that a dishwasher had to have career aspirations to become a chef. Pay was decent for them but the real value was that you got about an hour of training everyday to become a chef. Plus another hour or so where you weren't required to do any work but we're allowed to just watch and ask questions. I myself got started this way.
One day we opened and had no dishwasher, the guy called out last minute with the flu. both the executive sous chef and one of the regular Sous chefs working that day complained that they couldn't find anybody at all who was able to come in and do dishes and talked about cutting one of us on a rotating basis to be the dishwasher. They were not happy to put it mildly. Finally two hours into service a man comes in and says he was there to do dishes. The guy does not look like a dishwasher at all, guys wearing expensive looking designer clothes and wearing a Rolex that looks like it cost more than what a dishwasher should make in a year.
While waiting for someone to talk to him to tell him what he will be doing he walks behind the bar and pours himself a beer. They then show him the back area, show him what he needs to do and he tells him to hold on a minute and he'll start. The guy goes back to the bar again, this time makes himself a cocktail then returns, cocktail in hand. I was absolutely horrified seeing this, realizing this guy was going to get fired 5 minutes on what was apparently his first day. Our executive sous chef was a women that took no shit and had zero time for fuck ups. She wouldn't hesitate to scream in your face, throw some dish at you with laser accuracy, or fire you on the spot. Unbelievably talented chef with a ridiculously impressive resume, but you did not want to get on her bad side. I was legitimately scared for him.
He also very clearly did not want to be there and several times mumbled something to that effect. "God I don't want to be here" was muttered under his breath several times. I had extremely low hopes this guy would be even remotely useful.
Then he started working and man was he an absolute beast, clearly knew what he was doing and was working just as hard if not harder than all of us. Any attempt to socialize with him got just grunt about being busy or not caring and back to work he went. The whole thing was incredibly suspicious to me. Here's a man that clearly hates being there, one beer and several cocktails in working like an absolute beast as if his life depended on it. At this point I'm just afraid the executive sous will discover his drinking and fire him in the middle of the day screwing us.
After a bit the sous chef walked up to him horrified when he saw the cocktail in his hand telling him drinking on the job was absolutely not allowed under any circumstance. He turned around waved the cocktail in his face and said "then fire me already so I can go home" turned back around and back to work he went. The sous chef, being no dummy, realized something was probably up so he just turned around and walked off to go talk to his boss. At this point I was absolutely convinced she was going to storm over, slam him against the wall and fire him on the spot after a solid minute of screaming in his face. I attempted to warn him only to get a "fuck off, I'm busy." Instead not a single thing happened. She never even came over to talk to him. At one point I saw him grab an oyster and caviar dish plus a dry aged Wagyu dish to eat before going back to work. At this point I'm convinced this guy has a death wish. I don't care how short-staffed we are and how good of a worker he is, I am utterly shocked that our executive Sous has been putting up with this guy and his flagrant rule breaking. Yet somehow the entire day went by never once did she even seem to notice these flagrant violations of her rules that would get anyone else fired and sent home in a heartbeat.
Finally at the end of the day when everyone is starting to relax finishing up I'm sitting there watching him thinking to myself how on Earth did he manage to go the entire day without being fired when I see the executive sous walk up to him, wrap her arms around him and kiss him before burying her head on his chest. I hear her say something along the lines of "thank you for coming in to help me out, I really appreciate it and promise I'll make it up to you". At this point, like a light bulb turning on in my head, I realized the reason why this man seemed to be untouchable was because not only did he in fact not actually work there to begin with, He was the executive sous's boyfriend. A high paid finance bro who was at home chilling on his weekend when she called him and begged him to come in to help with the promise of free alcohol and food. The reason why he didn't care about being fired was he didn't want to be there at all, and the reason why that sous never came back was she told him to back off her boyfriend and let him have his cocktails in peace so long as he was actually working. That was also why he was so incredibly antisocial, he legitimately didn't want to be there and just wanted to get the day over with. I don't even know if the restaurant ever paid him or not for being a dishwasher for a single day. I doubt he cared about the money either way.

2022.01.28 09:10 tbitim anybody know why there are different requirements for the same 24hr test?
For this test (Metanephrines, fractionated, quantitative, 24hr urine):
I have noticed that some labs instruct the patient to keep the specimen chilled in a cooler of ice, and other labs use room temperature. This varies based only on the location, e.g., two PSCs run by LabCorp but 20 minutes down the road, give different directions for the exact same test the patient undergoes twice a year. Both insist they are right.
I don't think it has anything to do with the doctor's end, it seems to be something on the lab end that causes this difference. But what? I'm just curious if it "really" matters or not because one lab could potentially be doing it wrong all the time. lol
